Kamehamehaaaaa!

Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 is probably one of the more interesting fighting games made lately. Incorporating a large portion of the anime's trademark moves, it is far more versatile than its predecessor. The fighting style is relatively the same, although there are now more advanced ways of reaching the higher power-up combinations (like Gohan's Father-Son kamehameha or Vegeta's Final Flash). While you can power up as a Super Saiyan, there's also another power up move that allows you to unleash the more devastating combo attacks, followed by a you-vs.-opponent guessing game of button mashing to determine how many blows you land.

Teleporting is new, as well as general spastic dodging to quickly duck your head back and forth away from an incoming punch, at the cost of your ki energy.

Isn't all that interesting? Okay, now to drool. Every major villain from the movies, and most every character from Dragonball Z and GT. Well over 40 choices. This game takes 9 years to unlock everything, and even starting with 100% completion of DBZ Budokai 2 gives you absolutely nothing except Raditz and a silver membership card for the capsule store, which really only allows you to purchase Super Saiyan capsules and the basic energy moves.

I'd probably give it an 7.5/10. Graphics are nice, but it takes forever to unlock what you really want, and while I can't be more specific, there seems to be something lacking in the defensive system. Still, check it out. If you liked the first two, this game dramatically improves previous lackings, and the story mode is much, much more entertaining to follow than that god-awful board game in Budokai 2.

New on DVD.

... Go buy Troy. Seriously. Buy it.

Also, much to my absolute delight, the first season of Fox's cartoon series Gargoyles has been released on DVD, and it's going for just over $20. For anyone who ever saw the show, you know how incredibly awesome this is. 13 episodes. I bought the holy hell out of that sucker.

Music.

I wish. I haven't heard anything new that's anything good. Maybe I should broaden my horizons.

Updates?

Sure. I haven't put down the controller since I started playing Ace Combat 5, so expect a full glowing review of that very soon. I also plan to delve into that promised Resident Evil 4 demo this week. You'll hear from me again on Saturday. Somehow, the gods conspired to give me a day off work.
